Bayou Boogaloo to charge $10 admission for the first time to cover city fee, organizers say

Bayou Boogaloo, the annual Mid-City music, food and arts festival scheduled for Friday-Sunday (May 17-19), will charge admission for the first time, according to a festival spokesperson. The fee of $10 per day or $20 for all three days was made necessary by “a radical increase in land use fees from the City of New Orleans,” according to the spokesman.

For the first time in its 14-year history, the Bayou St. John music festival — known as much for  the wild floating creations launched on the bayou by attendees as for its bands — will have a required entry fee when gates open this Friday.

A tumultuous Bayou Boogaloo 2018 came to a close. The first day, Friday, May 18, was cancelled due to damaging rain and winds that toppled some of the festival’s infrastructure.

Shades of green: Art and crafts have an eco-friendly theme at Boogaloo

At this weekend’s Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo, organizers encourage attendees to ride bikes or carpool to the festival. They host bayou and bank cleanups, and their “Cash for Trash” program encourages fest goers to collect recycling and trash. Recycling receptacles are everywhere on the festival grounds.

“We are stewards for Bayou St. John and the Mid-City neighborhood and take our commitment to sustainability and green practices very seriously,” said Boogaloo founder Jared Zeller.
