Journey Allen is a New Orleans-born visual artist, muralist, arts educator, and children’s book author whose vibrant, community-centered work reflects the rich cultural heritage of her city. Her signature style blends bold abstract patterns with imagery that celebrates the vibrant culture of New Orleans .
Allen‘s public art projects often center on youth empowerment and social justice. Notable works include “Sacred Ones,” a mural created with detained teens at the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center, reimagining them as sacred figures inspired by stained glass and the work of Kehinde Wiley . She also led a collaborative Mardi Gras-themed mural at Gallier Hall with 24 students, honoring the legacy of Black cultural icons like the Flambeau Carriers and Mardi Gras Indians.
As an author and illustrator, Allen brings New Orleans folklore to life in her children’s book, The Beignet Babies in Mama Lorraine’s Magical French Quarter Bakery, weaving family history and cultural pride into her storytelling . Through her art, teaching, and storytelling, Journey Allen continues to uplift and inspire her community.
